About the Name and Logo
of Fear-No-More Zoo

The name Fear-No-More Zoo was given to the zoo by Adi Da Samraj and suggests two important facets of the zoo. The first is that non-humans, in comparison to most humans, dwell primarily in a state of spiritual contemplation. They do not live in chronic fear or anxiety. If disturbed they respond to the situation in the moment but then quickly return to a state of equanimity and natural contemplation once the threat has passed.

Secondly, the name Fear-No-More points to our obligation to care for animals in captivity in a sensitive, responsible, and loving way, with all of their requirement provided for, such that they need "fear no more". As Adi Da Samraj stressed, "If you're going to bring animals into your sphere and take them out of theirs, you have to make some sort of arrangement with them in which they have the potential, through their contemplative life, to be just as happy as you want them to be." Doing this provides the animals with a uniquely served circumstance in which they have the freedom to live and contemplate, in healthy environments, with minimal concern for survival.

The Fear-No-More Zoo logo depicts the first animal resident at the Mountain Of Attention Sanctuary. When the Sanctuary was first acquired in 1973, left behind by the former owners was a male German shepherd dog named Megan. Megan was adopted by Adi Da Samraj and lived for many years at the Sanctuary, in loving relationship with all the people who lived or visited there.

When Megan eventually died of old age in 1982, Adi Da Samraj acknowledged the German shepherd's spiritual sensitivity, and said that Megan had been released of many karmas through his devotion to his Master. A three-day vigil was performed in honor of Megan, after which he was buried at the entrance to the Zoo, his presence there to serve as guardian for all of the animals. At the time of his death Adi Da Samraj gave Megan the honorific title "Daji Megan Fear-No-More" in acknowledgment of Megan's life of service and devotion. The photograph above shows Megan in one of his playful moods, where he would delight in carrying around large logs, and even rocks, in his mouth.
